Artist in Residence

Center for Coastal Climate Resilience + Institute of Marine Sciences

Saul Villegas is a multidisciplinary artist and recent graduate of the Digital Arts & New Media MFA program at the University of California, Santa Cruz (2024). He currently serves as the Artist in Residence at the Center for Coastal Climate Resilience Lab (CCCR) and the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS), where his work focuses on translating scientific research into compelling visual narratives.

This residency will culminate in an immersive virtual exhibition scheduled for April 2026, featuring innovative research conducted across CCCR and IMS. Designed as an interactive digital environment, the exhibition will utilize mixed-media techniques to make complex scientific concepts more accessible to diverse audiences.

Through ongoing one-on-one collaborations with researchers, Villegas facilitates a cross-disciplinary dialogue between the arts and sciences. These engagements aim to establish a lasting framework for research dissemination through aesthetic and conceptual exploration.
